Why an OFF Period Is Essential

For most people who here "offseason" or "off period", then think it's time to eat whatever they want, "bulk", be lax, etc. Absolutely NOT. This is the time that is micromanaged far more than the dieting phase. Here's why: What you do during your "offseason" phase sets you up for your dieting phase. I spend 6-8 months per year with all of my clients after dieting, slowing increasing their calories and increasing their workload. This micromanaged approach is crucial if you want to make long term progress and generate permanent results. I always get the person who wants to "stay lean all year". And that's fantastic, because none of my clients ever get fat while working with me. However, there is a fine line between depleted lean, and healthy lean, whiling jacking up calories and training at a greater output.

The key for calories is training. If you are not focused on training, you will not build muscle. Simple as that. If you are running a car on E, it won't go far. If you're running a car with a fully loaded gas-tank, only filling it when it's required, then fat gain will be minimal, and quality gains will be made.

Many people still look past my point. It's not SIMPLY EAT MORE! It's micromanagement of food over a long period of time. This is why having a coach is essential.

Many times i've allowed myself to slip up and gain a few unwanted pounds over the years, and more so from a body comp side. The best approach to making continued progress, and the same approach I like to use with clients is to diet for 4-5 months slowly, and increase calories (the boring phase) and train more for 6-7 months.

Do this and you will rule your world.

Good day!
