How Carbohydrates Can Help Fat Loss

Raise your hand if you know someone who attempted a diet at some point and slashed their carbohydrates in an attempt to lose weight, turn around after 1 week fully convinced that it was the best diet for them?

Ok, I think you look a bit silly raising your hand right now. But you get it?

By going 0 on carbohydrates can in fact yield weight loss (Notice, I said weight loss and not fat loss). Every gram of carbohydrate holds 4g of water, so imagine having no water inta-cellularly. OF COURSE YOU'RE GOING TO DROP WEIGHT!

So you go 1 week, 2 week, 3 week on a pretty low-carbohydrate diet. Then your body begins to plateau. Well, you start slashing fats, 1 week, 2 week, 3 week, plateau. Now you're at 1,000 calories. Your body is living off the protein you're going it (or lack there of for most). 800 calories, 700 calories, etc. You get the point. Realistically, nobody can maintain this kind of diet for more than a few days. At this point, your body rebounds in such an intense way, you actually create more fat cells then you already had. This is even more true for women because of their cycle. You know the female that feels that she needs a cheat-meal every 72 hrs because she's dieting hard.

Without ever having to worry about any of this garbage happening with a clients short term and long term progress, I always start clients on a moderate carbohydrate diet to see what their body can withstand. Some women have insulin issues, while others don't. Stimulating the thyroid and metabolism with clean calories is very important -- ESPECIALLY FOR FEMALES. If you diet off some carbohydrates, and never slash them, you have a greater chance at losing body fat consistently and effectively in the long run. Some of my female clients eat upwards of 200+ grams per day, while others stick to 50-100g of carbohydrates per day. Everyone is different, and your body changes daily. Some women start high, end low, then go higher. Some men start low, go high. There is never 1 way. I change clients diets often for specific reason. The leaner you are the more carbohydrates your body may be able to tolerate. Generally speaking, if you want long term progression, you must start your diet eating a greater amount of food.
